Introduction of “Byte by Yum!”

In a recent announcement, Yum! Brands unveiled “Byte by Yum!”, a comprehensive suite of AI-driven Software as a Service (SaaS) products. This platform consolidates various technological solutions under one umbrella, aiming to simplify operations for franchisees and improve both customer and employee experiences. The suite encompasses tools for online and mobile app ordering, point-of-sale systems, kitchen and delivery optimisation, menu management, inventory and labour management, and team member resources. Currently, approximately 25,000 restaurants within the Yum! Brands system utilise at least one product from the Byte suite, processing over 300 million digital transactions annually.

Expansion of Voice AI in Drive-Thrus

Building on its AI initiatives, Yum! Brands is expanding its Voice AI technology across Taco Bell drive-through locations in the US This move comes as competitors, such as McDonald’s and Wendy’s, have also begun testing similar technologies, though Yum! Brands is aiming for a more widespread and rapid deployment. The company’s previous AI implementations in digital ordering and kitchen management have demonstrated success, paving the way for this next phase of automation.

The technology is currently operational in more than 100 Taco Bell drive-throughs across 13 states, with plans to extend it to hundreds more by the end of 2024. The primary objectives of this expansion are to reduce employee workload, enhance order accuracy, decrease wait times, and provide a consistent and friendly customer experience. AI-Driven Operational Enhancements

For instance, the Dragontail system, an AI-driven kitchen management tool, has been deployed in over 4,000 locations, with plans for further expansion. This system aids in order sequencing to ensure food freshness and accuracy.

Additionally, an AI-based inventory management system has been implemented across the majority of KFC and Taco Bell restaurants in the US, streamlining inventory processes and reducing waste.

Global Implementation and Future Prospects

The success of these AI initiatives in the US has prompted Yum! Brands to explore global implementation. Notably, five KFC restaurants in Australia are currently testing Voice AI technology in their drive-throughs, receiving positive feedback from both consumers and team members. The company envisions a future where such technologies are standard across its brands worldwide, continually enhancing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
